www.bitsandbytesfarm.com in Canton, GA buys, trains, and sells OTTBs and they do a nice job of it. The owners, Elizabeth and Barry Wood, also have several really good connections at many tracks that they trust, so if they don't have what you are looking for in their barn, if you contact them they can usually find it for you. These "prospect horses" are also much more inexpensive then the ones they have in training at their farm. Just wanted to pass this along! I ride at this farm and have been really impressed with the quality of horses and the training they are recieving.

The owner of Bits and Bytes charges alot for these horses. She is buying them from the tracks up North and they can be bought much much cheaper directly. Go to www.CanterUSA.org and check it out! Any one of the CANTER contacts will tell you which trainers can be trusted and which to look out for. I also have several of these guys fostered at my place all the time and for sale. ALL monies go directly to CANTER to pay for the horses that are not so adoptable.

I have two friends (three if you count one of their husbands, which I do) who have all purchased horses through Elizabeth Wood. Elizabeth and Barry run their own company (http://www.ewzusa.com) and that is what enables them to work with thoroughbreds and help them, which is their great passion. I don't believe they are making money off of these horses. In some cases they will take a horse in critical shape and nurse it back to health, just to save it from the killers. See their success stories on their Website (http://www.bitsandbytesfarm.com). They have developed good and trusting relationships with several trainers from different tracks. Some horses never even come to their farm; their pictures are posted on the B&B Website in an attempt to find them a home. If you're looking for a horse, call Elizabeth and talk to her. She can give you many, many referrals and help you.
kind regards all -- Linda

The Bits and Bytes horses have gone up in price alot over the past couple years. You can find them more affordably elsewhere.

I recently called on a horse that Elizabeth Wood had for sale. She is clearly making a pretty healthy commission on these "prospect horses" that she is getting from the track. I am a member of the racing community and am very familiar with the way business is handled there. Most of the horses on the track can be bought directly from the trainer or owner for under $3000. In some special cases the horses can be more, but most are just in a hurry to get rid of them. When I talked to Elizabeth she wouldn't disclose much information at all about the horses, nor would she give me thier racing names and locations so I could find out more about the horse. Clearly she was trying not to get jipped out of the deal. She was quite rude and short on the phone as well. I highly reccomend using Canterusa.org. The canter representatives are very knowledable and care more about the horses recieving excellent homes...instead of just making a profit.
