I got this email this morning:
"I looked at a Thoroughbred gelding yesterday with bone chips in his knee, films available, it happened when he raced three days ago. He's chestnut, probably about 15.3 hands, total sweetheart, easy to ride, good in his stall (no kicking), five years old, everybody I talked to who knows this horse says he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. The horse will be going with the killer at anytime within the next few days. Owner says he wants 500.00, but that is above slaughter price so I believe he will come down. I can be reached by email or it may be better to call 304-xxx-xxxx or 304-xxx-xxxx. I have two lame Tbs here now or I'd buy him myself, but I know I just don't have time to take this on!"

Her email's rachael2267 (at)yahoo(dot)com We have an offer of a permanent home for him, but he needs his ransom met! She thinks she can get him for $400 but doesn't know when the meat buyer will be showing up at the track. Last I checked, she's had $100 donated. If anyone can send even $5 or $10, please do.
